Klaire; Oregon Mini Bernedoodle or Dairy Cow?

This little spunky bundle of joy is Klaire!

She’s a mini F1b Bernedoodle, and we are planning for her to be a future mini Bernedoodle puppy momma for us here at High Desert Family Doodles.

As you’ve hopefully seen, we do have a couple of standard Bernedoodle sisters here outside of Bend, Oregon. They will have standard and medium sized High Desert Bernedoodle litters in Central Oregon. However, our hope is to have some smaller to miniature Bernedoodle litters for people around Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon who desire a smaller Bernedoodle but also want their temperament and demeanor.

So our search began for a hopeful mini Bernedoodle momma to join us in Oregon. The Doodle world can be a bit of a Wild West, which is why it has left a bad taste in people’s mouths. We have also gotten burned before with other “breeders” who marketed themselves as reputable. Also, since no Bernedoodle breed club exists, we want to find a breeder who upholds a breeding standard of accountability.

This led us back to Colorado, and the same group of breeders who raised our F1 Bernedoodle Remi. They also breed both Bernedoodles and Goldendoodles, and are part of GANA (Goldendoodle Association of North America). In light of this, they make sure their Bernedoodles also pass the GANA health-testing requirements for Goldendoodles. It’s important to us to breed responsibly and to do relevant health-testing, so this is a must for us.

We waited for months for this planned litter. We also knew a few genotypical traits that were a must for us, so we needed to do genetic screening before puppy selection to see if any of them ended up passing. Our hopeful mom had to be clear of DM, and also be fully furnished. This felt like long odds, but it’s testing we needed to do.

At the same time, we also felt drawn towards Klaire; her puppy name was “Rosemary”. We’ve always loved growing rosemary her in Oregon. She had an extremely unique coloring for her litter, and more than a few people thought she resembled a cow!

However, it was meant to be; she was the only one who tested clear for DM and was fully furnished!

We had a fun trip to Denver, Colorado to pick up this beautiful mini Bernedoodle puppy, and she travelled great! She stayed with us a few days, and then moved in with her guardian home here is Central Oregon, where she lives with her friend and our mini Goldendoodle momma Rosie.

As a mini Bernedoodle, Klaire has some unique genetic traits as well. She is full parti tricolor (kyky atat spsp), which is the reason why she has so much white in her coat. She is also fully furnished (F/F), carries brown (B/b), and has a curly coat (+/+).

To date, Klaire has passed her OFA prelim hip and elbow screening. Once she turns one over the summer, we will finish her health screening with OFA Cardiac, patella, and eye exam.

If all goes according to plan, we will pair our mini Bernedoodle Klaire with our AKC Moyen Poodle Brownie this fall when Klaire comes into season. Since Brownie is a wavy tri-colored poodle who carries parti, we are expecting the litter to be phantom abstract or tricolor with wavy or curly coats. Since markings can have a hereditary aspect to them, we are looking forward to seeing how God uses Brownie and Klaire to craft some beautiful multigen mini Bernedoodles, in the 25-40 pound range. Even though Klaire is a mini Bernedoodle, she has some of the blockiness and heavier boned structure of a Bernese Mountain Dog, which is a reason that people can be drawn to a Bernedoodle.

Both Klaire and Brownie have similar playful and good-natured spirits, however they both also enjoy lounging on the deck or watching some shows.

We are really looking forward Klaire’s journey ahead with us and her guardian family. We are deeply grateful to have her as part of our program, and are excited to vicariously share her enthusiasm and joy with her future mini Bernedoodle puppies’ families.
