One Doodle’s Sun Sets, Another Doodle Rises

Oregon's greatest mini Goldendoodle puppy

Here's your semi-monthly update on the activities and festivities here at High Desert Family Doodles!

The second half of August has been no exception, as we’ve been wilding with our Goldendoodle and Bernedoodle friends. August has had some surprises for us, along with some disappointments. However, we’ve continue to feel blessed as we get to love on a couple litters of Goldendoodle and Bernedoodle puppies, and have also welcomed a new hopeful mini bernedoodle stud to our program. We're enjoying these last few dog days of summer, and sharing the love to as many dogs as we can here in Oregon!

Poodle Cuddles on Vet Floor

Luna was not herself this month, so we held this puppy momma tight, even on the ground at the Vet Office in Madras, Oregon.

Let’s start with August’s disappointment first: sadly, Luna is finished with having Goldendoodle puppies. As August unfolded, Luna started behaving differently. Her demeanor was different; she was extremely lethargic and had no appetite (these tend to not bode well for a dog’s health). After several trips to the vet, a variety of testings, and a couple of infusions, Luna was back on the mend. Though she had been significantly dehydrated, the issue stems from some systemic hormonal imbalances. Since stress can easily throw these hormone levels out of balance, we made the heavy decision to retire her from our program. That way she can just focus on frolicking and cuddling her humans. We’re obviously sad about this, but it’s the right choice.

Bernedoodle Puppy in a Bag!

Here’s where Canyon rode in the airplane from North Carolina to Oregon.

Whew, that was heavy; now for the fun news! We recently welcomed Canyon, our hopeful petite Bernedoodle stud. Canyon comes all the way from North Carolina, and traveled like an absolute champion! He currently weighs five pounds at nine weeks old, and we’re anticipating this mini bernedoodle puppy weighing between 15-20 pounds at maturity. He’s a jovial puppy, and has shown confidence with all the new people and dogs he’s met over the past few days. Canyon will actually be living with a guardian in Bend, Oregon, an old friend who recently reconnected with us through the beauty of this Goldendoodle and Bernedoodle community. He will be doing health-testing over the next year to see if he meets our standards. If he does clear the testing, he will be the sire of petite Bernedoodle and Golden Mountain Doodle puppies. We’re excited for this little furry elf of a Bernedoodle puppy; stay tuned for more Canyon hype!

A Basket of Goldendoodle Puppies!

Winnie’s mini Goldendoodle puppies are cuddling close, but they appreciate the intimacy.

Now the part of the High Desert Family Doodle update everyone is waiting for; THE PUPPIES! We are currently raising two litters: Winnie’s mini Goldendoodle puppies, and Klaire’s mini Bernedoodle puppies. Winnie’s eight Goldendoodle puppies are five weeks old right now, and are looking absolutely fabulous! Her “Summer Harvest” litter, these mini Goldendoodle puppies are named after the cornucopia of summer’s fruits and veggies. These little puppy nuggets are beginning to eat solid food, and experiencing new textures, people, and objects in their world. These mini Goldendoodles are right on the front end of their incredibly important 4-12 week old socialization window, so we’re doing all we can as breeders to give them an enriched and varied experience of their surrounding world.

Looking ahead to September, we’re expecting Belle to whelp her medium bernedoodle litter early September. We also just bred Rosie, so we’ll be able to confirm her pregnancy later in September. We will also be sending Winnie’s mini Goldendoodles home that month, and enjoying the heart of our time with Klaire’s mini Bernedoodle puppies.

On that note, we’re currently looking looking for a couple guardian homes in central Oregon for a mini Goldendoodle puppy from Winnie’s litter and mini Bernedoodle puppy from Klaire’s litter. So if you’re interested in a free top shelf puppy for your family, and you live in central Oregon, please reach out to us!

As summer and August comes to a close, we’re overwhelmed with gratitude. We’re thankful for how many people have shown High Desert Family Doodles love, and got to experience the love of one of our Goldendoodles and Bernedoodles throughout Oregon, Washington, California, and the whole nation too! We’re continually surprised by how abundant this path has been, and love sharing this journey of joy with you.

With love and thankfulness from the heart of Oregon,

Erin and Jay
