Goldendoodles & Bernedoodles Keep Passing Health Testing

We are going to take a break from our regularly scheduled program of puppies and litters to give you an update on our hopeful next generation of Goldendoodle and Bernedoodle parents.

While we’ve been caring for Honey, Luna, and Rosie’s litters here at High Desert Family Doodles, we have also been health-testing our upcoming Doodle moms and dads to see if they’ll pass our rigorous testing standards supplied by GANA. We’ve been overjoyed by the results, and are excited to share that both Maple and Rudy have passed their GANA Blue Ribbon health testing standards for Goldendoodles. Chloe and Nellie have passed some of their testing up to this point, and Juno is about to start hers. So here’s the details of where all of them stand.

Bernedoodle Puppy at Vet in Madras Oregon

Our vets in Madras and Redmond, Oregon take great care of our Bernedoodles and Goldendoodles!

First, I want a say a bit about why this is important to us. We want to do what we can to make sure that we’re responsibly breeding our Goldendoodles and Bernedoodles. This way, we can assure our puppy families that we are doing are best to affirm and nurture healthy Goldendoodle and Bernedoodle lines. GANA offers an objective standard for us to follow, and hold us accountable to make the right choices no matter the consquences. This is also why these also serve as our Bernedoodle health standards, so we can openly and unapologetically say that we test and screen all of our Bernedoodle parents too.

So let’s start with our goldendoodle Maple first.

Redmond and Prineville Goldendoodle Mom Maple

Upcoming Goldendoodle Momma Maple is enjoying Spring in Redmond, Oregon and the rest of Central Oregon.

While she had passed her DNA, elbow, and hip testing last year, Maple still needed to complete her OFA patella and cardiac final exam once she turned a year old. Her birthday was in March, so we proceeded to schedule her testing for later that month. Maple passed that testing with flying colors, and with that she is now a GANA blue-ribbon Goldendoodle dam.

We anticipate breeding her late this summer with Luca, producing small medium Goldendoodle puppies, and a number of them already have homes throughout Oregon, including Portland and Redmond.

Mini Goldendoodle Stud Rudy is looking cool and confident in Madras, Oregon.

In addition to Maple, our Petite Goldendoodle stud Rudy passed his OFA eye test! In the past few months, he’s also passed his OFA patella and cardiac prelim. Now he has completed his GANA blue-ribbon Goldendoodle health testing, and he is ready to go! We’re excited about this, because Rudy is tentatively slated as our next cornerstone Goldendoodle stud. He’s got a great temperament, and is confident with both other dogs and new people. His hopeful first breeding will be with Winnie, who is scheduled to go into heat quite soon! Rudy’s around 18 pounds, has a deep red wavy coat, and is completely genetically clear! This petite Goldendoodle is excited about this whole process, and is ready to join our program, producing beautiful petite and mini Goldendoodle puppies here in Oregon. Once he turns one in July, we will need to do the final OFA patella and cardiac testing. At this point, he’s cleared for takeoff!

We also have two of our hopeful future moms in the midst of the testing process: our petite Goldendoodle Chloe and standard Bernedoodle Nellie. To date, Chloe has cleared her DNA panel testing, along with passing her Pennhip and OFA Hip/Elbow prelims. This means that Chloe still needs to pass her OFA eye, patella, and cardiac testing. Our bernedoodle Nellie has been genetically tested, along with passing her hip/elbow testing, along with her eyes. That means all she has left is her OFA cardiac testing after a year. Since she’s a standard bernedoodle, we won’t be doing patella testing on her because it’s not a significant risk for larger dogs. We’ll be completing Chloe’s eye test in the next couple months, but we’ll need to wait until Chloe and Nellie are a year old before we can do the patella and cardiac testing.

Our hopeful mini Goldendoodle mom Juno is getting ready to start her health-testing. Her hip/elbow exam is scheduled in two weeks, and it typically takes a couple weeks to receive the testing results. We’re hopeful for Juno, but it’s deeply important for us to make sure all of our Goldendoodles and Bernedoodles are good breeding candidates and pass the requisite health-testing.

Redmond and Bend Oregon Mini Goldendoodle Puppy

Mini Goldendoodle puppy Juno is loving her life with her guardians in Bend, Oregon!

We’ll keep you posted on our future testing developments as the hopeful next generation of High Desert Family Doodle parents come of age.

In the meantime, back to your regularly scheduled program of puppy updates and training reflections!

Warmly,

Erin and Jay
