Luca; Our Multigen Goldendoodle Stud

Oregon Goldendoodles stud Luca goes from Seattle Washington to Portland Oregon

Meet Luca!

He is our multigen mini Goldendoodle stud. We are excited for his upcoming litters and the future ahead of him as we strive to lead the way in Oregon Goldendoodles and Goldendoodle puppies!

With so many Goldendoodle breeders out there - and so many with unknown backgrounds - we believe it’s important for our anchoring Goldendoodle stud to come from proven lines that have been extensively health tested. As one of only a handful of GANA Goldendoodle Breeders in Washington, Oregon, and California, its important for us to model responsible screening and breeding. So it was a long road to find a Goldendoodle stud that fit into our program. We searched for different studs all the way to the east coast, and nothing quite aligned with our programs goals.

However, that Goldendoodle puppy path led to us finding Luca last summer! Luca comes from a group of three GANA Breeders in Colorado. Two of our other dogs - our Bernedoodle Remi and Klaire - come from these breeders, and we believe in how they stand behind their Goldendoodles, Bernedoodles, and breeding practices.

While he was part of a larger Goldendoodle litter, we had to test some of the male’s DNA ahead of time to make sure our potential stud would genetically compliment his future mates. As if it was meant to be, Mr. Luca was the only one of the boys that matched well with our other female Goldendoodles. So this little Colorado guy was destined to be an Oregon Goldendoodle!

Luca did great on his travel from Colorado to Oregon. He has a tender heart, and is great with his guardian home here is Central Oregon. It’s a pretty sweet story; the family suffers from dog allergies, and has wanted a dog for a while, but has been unable to find one that wouldn’t set off their allergies. Now Luca and his Goldendoodle traits have found a great place in their home here in Oregon.

As of May 2022, Luca has almost completed all of his health screening. First, he has passed his Pennhip/OFA prelim hip screening, along with his OFA prelim elbow screening. From there, we then did a complete genetic testing panel on Luca to see if he carried anything else that may be problematic.

That went great too, because Luca doesn’t even carry any risky genetic alleles for a Goldendoodle puppy! This means this is one less thing we’d need to worry about when looking for matches!

Luca also passed his OFA eye exam, along with his prelim patella and cardiac exam. By completing this testing, Luca has achieved Blue Ribbon status through the Goldendoodle Association of North America, the highest testing clearance they give. He is also cleared to breed before his first birthday.

Once he turns one, we will do his OFA patella and cardiac final exams, which would be his final testing clearances, with the exception of his ongoing eye exams.

Luca also carries some unique traits. While he is obviously parti, he does carry brown(Bb) and phantom (kbky atat). Luca is +/+ curl, and is fully furnished along with low-shedding.

Luca is part of some big plans here at High Desert Family Doodles. He will be matched with our first Goldendoodle Honey over her next couple cycles. We are excited to see these red-abstract medium-mini Goldendoodle litters. We are expecting Honey to come into season at some point over the next month, so we should hopefully meet his puppies in the coming months.

We also added Maple to our pack; she’s a mini-medium parti Goldendoodle. She is also genetically clear, and she is -/- curl. While Maple is only a Goldendoodle puppy at this point, if she passes her health clearances, we will pair her with Luca. We are thrilled for this pairing, as they will be mini-medium parti Goldendoodles with wavy, low-shedding coats. While Maple does have a long road until she’s cleared for her first litter, she does come from strong Goldendoodle lines - GANA lines - and so we are hopefully expecting her first Goldendoodle litter with Luca in the second half of 2023.

We are also considering pairing Luca with one of our Oregon Bernedoodles - Belle or Yose - for Golden Mountain Doodles in 2022. Stay tuned for more details on either of these pairings.

All in all, we are jazzed about Luca. He’s shown himself to be a tremendous family doodle. He’s gentle and gracious, and has shown himself to be gentle on allergies. The sky’s the limit for this Goldendoodle stud, not just in Oregon, but throughout Washington, California, and the rest of the Pacific Northwest.

Warmly,

Erin and Jay
