Exciting July News for Our Goldendoodle Puppies

This Oregon July has been busy here at High Desert Family Doodles, and we wanted to give you an update.

First, three our our Goldendoodle puppy mommas - Rosie, Luna, and Honey - all came into season over the past month. Rosie started it off, and Luna began a little over a week later. Honey was also showing some signs at the same time as Luna - which we were anticipating. However, her progresterone levels stayed low for a couple more weeks until Honey entered fully into estrus. It was pretty interesting experience!

We’ve heard a lot of anecdotal evidence that cohabiting female dogs will come into season at the same time, however we haven’t come across any studies that confirm this phenomenon. So we thought that Luna and Honey would probably sync up, with Rosie being a bit of a wild card since she lives with a guardian family. However, Luna and Rosie were the closest together, with Honey being further apart for them both.

We definitely appreciate these gaps, as it will give us some time between whelping Goldendoodle puppy litters to help get our Goldendoodle mommas settled in before the next litter arrives.

We were able to breed each of our Goldendoodle girls with a different High Desert Family Doodle stud, which we are so excited about!

Rosie was bred with our Moyen Poodle Brownie, and we can’t wait to see this mini/petite Goldendoodle puppies. We were able to confirm this pregnancy a couple weeks ago via ultrasound, which we were thrilled for. With an assortment of coats and colors, and amazingly social parental temperaments, we are looking forward to these puppies thriving! These mini Goldendoodle puppies will be heading up an down the west coast; to Washington, Oregon, and California.

Luna was then bred with our English Cream Golden Retrieve Mango. Mango came from Portland, Oregon to stay with us for a week, where they successfully bred. As some of you know, we had unsuccessfully bred these two at the beginning of the year, so we were holding our breath while also trusting nature on this one. So we were relieved when we were also able to confirm Luna’s pregnancy this week via ultrasound as well! This litter will be standard English Cream F1 Goldendoodles, with both straight and wavy coats. These puppies will also be heading to homes up and down the west coast, from San Diego California to Seattle Washington and Boise Idaho.

A couple weeks later, Honey was bred with our multigen parti Goldendoodle stud Luca, who lives with a guardian family here in Central Oregon with us. We still have a couple weeks before we confirm Honey’s pregnancy via ultrasound, but we are excited and hopeful; more to come! This litter of Goldendoodle puppies would be headed to California, Oregon, Washington, and also Colorado! High Desert Family Doodles are going to be throughout the west coast.

Alongside of all this romance, we also completed a large amount of health-screenings this month. Yose, Belle, Klaire, and Maple all went on a road trip from Madras Oregon to Springfield Oregon to visit the veterinary ophthalmologists to make sure their eyes are healthy, and the vet said all their eyes look “perfect”!

Our Goldendoodle stud Luca also received his OFA passing scores for his heart and patellas. This makes him our third Goldendoodle stud that has reached the blue-ribbon level with GANA, joining Brownie and Mango

Our upcoming Goldendoodle girl Maple went in this week to get her hip, elbow, cardiac, and patella prelims. She passed her cardiac and patella prelims, and we are awaiting the results from her radiographic review. We are hopeful, as she comes from great lines with another GANA breeder. We should know in a couple weeks, and we are really hopeful for her to pair with Luca in the years ahead.

A Wonderful Doodle Breeder Retreat in Utah

In the midst of all of this, Erin got to go on a retreat with a group of other breeders in Bear Lake, Utah. It was a sweet time to make new deep friendships, to talk about the sweet and hard aspects of breeding, to encourage and laugh with each other. It was a wonderfully surprising time of fellowship, and we look forward to enjoying these relationships in the months and years ahead!

All in all, July has been quite the busy month for us. There has also been plenty of time for snuggles, cuddles, walks, exploring, treats, training, and maybe even a little doggie ice cream here and there.

We feel really blessed to be a part of breeder retreats, having life-giving conversations with our future puppy homes and vet techs, and to see old friends and their kids find joy in our Goldendoodles and Bernedoodles.

There’s a quote that says something like “life is hard; life is beautiful”, and this rings true. While this journey can be tough at times, there are immense seasons of beauty. We really feel like we’re in one of those seasons right now, and love sharing it with you.

Warmly,

Erin and Jay
